Further, did you think that you would ever be asked to invent one on your own for a school project or any other purpose? Not many of us have probably given it a thought. However, there is someone who first came up with the bright idea to develop board games that challenge our logic, sensibility, and knowledge at every level. Coming up with a board game then can also be a very challenging and intimidating task. But, what if you were given some ideas for board game projects for school? Wouldn't you build on them to come up with a unique game that has been unheard of? Well, here are some ideas that will truly inspire you.
Unique & Interesting Board Game Ideas for School Projects
When designing a board game, you should decide on who the game is meant for, which is primarily decided based on the age group that is being targeted. Based on this target audience, you can mold your game to fit their needs and requirements. Now, each of the game ideas given below is just that, an idea. There are several loopholes that you will have to work around and fill in order to make the game fool proof. You may also inspire from these ideas to come up with some ideas on your own. You may decide on the number of players in each game based on your choice. So without further ado, let's move on to giving you these great ideas.
This is a game specifically based on the Egyptian pyramids and building them by answering trivia based on the ancient Egyptian culture. The procedure may be as follows:
  • Roll the dice. The person to get a number six followed by another number will move those many spaces ahead.
  • At every few spaces, there will be a slot that allows the person who falls there to answer a specific question about the ancient Egyptian culture.
  • Upon answering the question correctly, the player gets to build one pyramid in a dedicated zone for each player on the board.
  • The pyramid sizes will range from miniature, small, medium, large, extra large, and the largest pyramid.
  • As the player moves ahead, the level of difficulty of the questions increases.
  • The first player to answer all questions correctly and build the largest pyramid wins.
A game based on teaching selling, marketing, and business skills, this is a game that can go on for a while. Based loosely on the popular board game called monopoly, you may design the procedure as follows:
  • The board is divided into four zones that sell different products, such as clothes, cars, games and accessories, and furniture. These may be modified as per your choice.
  • The goal of the game is to be the first one in possession of four items from each zone.
  • All players start off by rolling the dice, and as they move ahead, they can decide which zone to enter.
  • Before entering a zone the player has to buy the items related to his zone. All players will be given a certain amount of money before the game starts.
  • The player then enters the other zone he desires. Each zone has slots with a specific value on them.
  • When the player falls on a slot of a specific value, the other player has to buy a product of the same value that he is selling.
  • So that the player can make a profit, the cost price of the product should be lower than the selling price, i.e. the value of the slot.
  • The catch is in the fact that the value of each product may not be affordable, thereby making the process of attaining four products from each zone difficult.
  • Players may also be deterred by penalties on slots in each zone, where they may have to sell off their products to pay for these penalties.
  • While the focus should be to collect products from each zone, it should also focus on deterring your opponents from winning.
Mind Your Language
Mind Your Language is a game based on the rules of the English language, where you are to derive or answer all queries related to grammar. This could include sentence construction, the use of nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc. So your game could be designed as follows:
  • Each player is positioned at the start point.
  • The players are divided into two teams, though this game may also be played among two players.
  • A player from each team may choose a card group, from which the opposite team will pick up a card and pose a question. For instance, a simple question that is asked in the earlier stages of the game may be 'what is the superlative of the world happy?'
  • If the question is answered correctly, she/he moves ahead one space. If she/he is unable to answer the question correctly, she/he remains in the same position.
  • As the players move ahead, the difficulty level of each question increases.
  • The player to reach the end of the board first wins the game.
This is a game based on building your own car as you tackle obstacles in the way, and attempt to defeat your opponent.
  • Each player starts with a piece and moves ahead as the dice is rolled.
  • They may choose the car brand (BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi, etc.) they wish to build in advance.
  • Only when they fall on slots meant specifically for each zone, after rolling the dice and attaining the necessary number to reach the slot, can they move ahead.
  • The first part to be given to any player should be the wheels. Only once the wheels are acquired can the player move ahead.
  • Other parts include the engine, fuel tank, seats, doors and windows, roof, windshield, and bonnet. If you wish, you may add further details such as headlights, tail lights, windshield wipers etc. The car should be built in a logical manner. For this, you will have to find out the overall steps in building a car.
  • If a player falls on a slot meant for another car brand, they must forgo any one car part or miss a turn. If they do not own a car part yet, they must miss a turn. There should also be some no brand slots on the board.
  • Each player is also given one bonus card that can be used to threaten their opponent's progress. There may be slots on the board that allow you to collect more bonus cards, which may be traded for a car part when a player thinks necessary.
  • The first person to build the entire car wins.
